Punjab SP Gurjot Kaler unfurls Tricolour on Mount Kilimanjaro on Independence Day

A senior Punjab police officer unfurled Indian tricolor on the top of the highest -free -standing mountain in the world and the highest mountain in the African continent in Tanzania – Mount Kilimanjaro – on the summit of 5,895 meters, the Indian High Commissioner in Tanzania was announced on Tuesday.

Police Inspector Gurjot Singh Kaler told Ians by telephone from Arusha City in Tanzania that he seized the peak on August 15 in his first effort with two other mountain climbers.

Previously, Kaler had carried out the summit of Mount Hurro from Machhadhar in the Himalayas.

He is a trained and honored mountain climber with the best Mountaineer award by the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in 2018 during his basic mountain climbing course.

Police officials said Gilman Point was the most difficult to cross because of the rough stone terrain and bad weather.

We started the expedition from the Marangne ​​gate to Mandala Hut and then from Mandala Hut to Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. From Kibo Hut to Gilman Point is the toughest part. Then Stella Point and finally Uhuru Peak, the top point of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters, he said.

“Of course, the weather does lead to big challenges, especially when we start rising from Kibo Hut to Gilman Point.” The climb starts around midnight at 12 am in the middle of cold and windy weather and takes three days to conquer its peak.

The top point of the peak, the peak of Uhuru, in Swahili means freedom.

Tanzania received freedom from the British colonial in December 1961 and this peak was named Uhuru, Freedom.

Kaler, who is writing poetry, songs, and books to create social resurrection, besides completing people with skills to become defenders of cyberspace, has also done skydive from 15,000 feet in Nottingham in England in honor of Corona Warriors in 2020.

Dedicating achievements to the spirit of fighting climate change and global warming, a young officer who is happy Kaler said the mission was to inspire young people to fight against drugs and promotion of sports culture.
