New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee met with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Wednesday within the ir first interaction since the 2 parties contested as rivals in the Bengal election in April-May. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present within the talks that are significant amid opposition moves to hitch forces for a united fight within the 2024 national election.

“Sonia ji invited me for a cup of tea and Rahul ji is additionally there. We discussed Pegasus and therefore the Covid situation within the country. Everyone will need to work together,” Ms Banerjee said after the 45-minute interaction with Sonia Gandhi, with whom she has always had cordial ties.

The Bengal Chief Minister, in Delhi for five days, had met with senior Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Anand Sharma on Tuesday. Congress leaders recently tweeted on the Chief Minister’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee being one among the potential targets of the Pegasus spyware. Trinamool MP Sougata Roy welcomed the tweet as a Congress gesture of unity. “It should strengthen bonds between opposition parties.”

Prashant Kishor, who managed Mamata Banerjee’s successful campaign, recently met all three Gandhis.
