Recently, the report had circled about the removal of the SIM tray from the iPhone starting with “iPhone 15” in 2023. Shortly after that, Macrumor received an anonymous tip that Apple had been in talks with large US operators, advising them to prepare for ESIM Only a smartphone, arranged to arrive on September 2022. This information was confirmed by Apple Leaker @derlandkt reliable via Twitter.
Releasing the physical SIM tray from a smartphone does have several advantages of a manufacturing perspective. First, the mechanism to issue and insert the SIM tray no longer need to be produced and his absence will free up valuable space inside. One fewer ports will simplify the production of frames and eliminate SIM trays will make smartphones easier to keep water and dust out of the internal cellphone.
With Apple removal of the headphone jack and adoption of Magsafe accessories in recent years, the company will be another step closer to the port-less iPhone if removing a physical SIM slot from future models.
The last few generations of iPhones can use ESIM and can be used along with physical nanosimm for Dualsim features. Hong Kong variant and Mainland China iPhone can support double nanosim cards.
