Afghanistan Taliban highlights today: Panjshir now resembles a ghost town, says report

Afghan schools will be open for boys from Saturday, the Ministry of Taliban Education has only said in a statement that does not provide indications when girls may be able to return to their class.

The German President has bestowed one of the highest awards in the country to the commander who led German evacuation and several Afghans from Kabul, the Associated Press reported.

President Frank-Walter Steinmeier praised Brig. Gen. Jens Arlt’s leadership of an operation he said “unprecedented” in the history of Germany II World War II.

The German military evacuated more than 5,300 citizens from 45 countries from the Afghan capital, part of a wider international effort to turn on 120,000 after the Taliban takeover last month.

Steinmeier noted that the Arlt managed to bring home all the 500 troops without being injured, even though there was a risk they face on the ground. He added that “we bear some responsibilities for the human tragedy” in Afghanistan.
