India has set a record target of 10 million tons (MT) of wheat exports in 2022-23 amid the increasing global demand
New Delhi: This center plans to send a delegation to Morocco, Tunisia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Algeria, and Lebanon to discuss wheat exports.
In a statement, the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Thursday said India had set a record target of 10 million tons (MT) wheat exports in 2022-23 amid the increasing global demand.
In 2021-22, India exported a record of seven MTs from wheat worth $ 2.05 billion. About 50% of wheat is exported to Bangladesh. Egypt has imported 6.1 MT wheat from India.
This center has created a task force for wheat exports with representatives from various ministries under the auspices of the Export Development Authority of Agricultural Products and Food Products (APEDA).
The ministry said farmers, traders and exporters have been advised to follow the quality norms for India to emerge as a reliable global wheat supplier because there has been an increase in Indian wheat demand globally.
The Department of Trade plans a sensitivity meeting about exports in countries that grow large wheat such as Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Apeda separately organizes interactive sessions with farmers, traders, and exporters in Haryana’s Karnal to promote quality wheat exports.
