Washington: US President Joe Biden said Friday, he called German Chancellor Germany, Olaf Scholz, and discussed tensions at the Ukrainian border, where tens of thousands of Russian troops were included.
Biden tweeted he called Scholz to congratulate him to become a German leader. “I hope to work with various global challenges, including transatlantic efforts to overcome the accumulation of an unstable Russian military,” he wrote.
Calls with Scholz limit a week of intense telephone diplomacy for Biden in Ukraine, who feared the Russian invasion.
On Tuesday, Biden spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, warned his severe economic sanctions if the forces were deployed to the border carrying out the attack.
He also said the United States will work with Russia in restarting the diplomatic process.
Biden spoke with great European power before and after Putin talks. On Thursday he called the President of Ukraine and the leaders of the nine Eastern European allies.
Scholz took over from the old predecessor Angela Merkel this week.
In a statement, the White House said Scholz and Biden also discussed “various global challenges, including sustainable efforts to end the Covid-19 pandemic, against the threat of climate change, and overcome the increase in Russian forces around Ukraine.”
