WASHINGTON: Microsoft Corp said on Monday it would remove the Russian cellular media outlet mobile application from the Windows App Store and prohibit advertisements in Russian state-sponsored media, because global technology companies responded to Moscow’s invasion to Ukraine.
The company said it would not display RT and Sputnik content that was sponsored by the state, de-rank their search results on Bing and not placing ads from the ad network on the site.
Western technology companies, including Google – Owners of Meta Platforms Inc. and Alphabet Inc. Google, have placed limitations in media outlets controlled by countries in Ukraine and throughout the world.
Google has banned the download of RT cellular applications in the Ukrainian region after restrictions on Russian state-owned media outlets and other channels of receiving money on their website, application and video videos.
Facebook limits the media of Russian countries from running ads or monetizing on the platform anywhere in the world.
“(We) will make sustainable adjustments to strengthen our detection mechanisms and disorders to avoid dissivity deployment and promote independent and trusted content,” Microsoft said on the blog.
A list of developing companies also wanted to get out of Russia as sanctions from Western countries tightened.
