Omicron: New curbs in place for arrivals from ‘at-risk’ nations at Delhi, Mumbai airports

Some airports throughout the country, including those in Delhi and Mumbai, have imposed new restrictions after the rules of the New Government of the Government for International passengers which will come into force since Wednesday due to the threat of Omicron Covid- 19 variants.

On Tuesday, the Secretary of Unity Unity Rajesh Bhushan held a meeting with the state and the United States, where he asked them to increase testing against Covid-19 and improve testing infrastructure. Countries are also asked to test international passengers who arrive from ‘risky’ countries on the day of their arrival and also send samples of people found positively to appoint laboratories for genome sequencing.

At present, European countries, including Britain, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel have been registered as ‘At risk’ from the Ministry of Health.

Here are some settings made in Delhi and Mumbai International Airport by looking at new guidelines.

Delhi.

Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has issued orders regarding international passengers who arrived at the airport which stated that the new central guidelines must be strictly followed.

The airline is expected to notify passengers from ‘at risk’ countries that they will be tested on arrival in Delhi. They will also experience compulsory quarantine, in positive testing, and their samples will be collected for genome sequencing.

If negative, passengers will be sent to quarantine houses for a week and on eighth day, they will be tested again. In negative testing again, they will be recommended to monitor yourself for another week. However, these restrictions do not apply to those who come from other countries. Also, children under five years are excluded, unless they are found symptomatic.

The dedicated Ward of 40 beds has been made in Lok Jaiprakash Hospital to accommodate positive test passengers.

Mumbai.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai said on Tuesday that passengers came from ‘at risk’ countries to be separated from those who came from other countries.

Adequate RT-PCR testing facilities for international arrivals in the form of 48 counters registration and 40 sample booths have been established, Ani’s report said. It is said that this facility will increase, if the need arises.

To facilitate passenger testing with flight connects in Mumbai with a shorter duration, 30 fast PCR engines are also available.

The large sitting area for passengers arrived, QR code in various locations in the arrival corridor and facilities such as bathrooms, food and drinks have also been arranged, CSMIA said.

Those who come from ‘risky’ countries will be subject to institutional quarantine seven days and will be tested for Covid-19 on the second day, fourth and seventh.
